Privacy Policy
This page explains, in plain terms, what Chord Finder does and does not do with the notes, chords and fretting you select in its tools. The short version: every chord identified, every diagram drawn and every sound played happens entirely in your own browser, nothing you select is sent to a server, and the only data this site collects is anonymous and does not identify you.
What the chord tools do with your input
The chord finder, piano chord finder, guitar chord finder and reverse chord finder all run entirely as JavaScript in your browser. When you click a note, a piano key, or choose a fret on the guitar identifier, that selection is compared against a chord dictionary by code running on your own device to produce a result. It is never transmitted to this site's servers, logged, or stored anywhere outside your browser.
Unlike some calculators, the chord tools on this site do not save your note selections between visits: refreshing the page or navigating away clears the current selection, and nothing about which notes or chords you looked up is written to your browser's local storage either. Each visit to a tool starts from a blank selection.
The Play button and audio
Every tool on this site includes a Play button that generates a short synthesized sound for the selected or identified chord using your browser's built-in Web Audio API. This creates sound directly on your device, similar to how a simple digital instrument works; it does not use your microphone, does not record anything, and does not upload or store any audio. No permission prompt appears when you press Play, because no recording capability is ever requested or used.
The feedback button
Each tool page has a small "was this tool helpful" feedback control. Clicking a thumbs-up or thumbs-down sends a single anonymous signal to this site's server: which tool you rated, and whether you clicked up or down. No note, chord, or fretting you selected is included in that signal, and no cookie, IP address, or device fingerprint is stored alongside it. A flag is saved in your browser's local storage afterward so you are not asked to vote again on a later visit; that flag never leaves your device.
If you use the "Send feedback" link instead, it opens your own email application with a pre-filled address and subject line. Anything you choose to write and send in that email is handled the same way as any other email you send, and is not automated or tracked by this site.
Analytics and advertising
If this site uses a web analytics service, it is a privacy-focused, cookieless option that reports only aggregate figures such as total visits, popular pages, and country-level location: it does not track individuals across visits or across other websites, and does not use cookies to do so. If this site displays advertising, the advertising network may use its own cookies or similar technology, governed by that network's own privacy policy rather than this one; this site does not share your note or chord selections with any advertiser under any circumstances, because those selections never reach this site's server in the first place.
What this site does not do
This site does not require an account, a sign-up, or a login for any tool. It does not ask for your name, your instrument, your email address, or any other personal information to use any tool. It does not sell data, because it does not collect the kind of data that would be sellable in the first place: your note and chord selections stay in your browser, not on a server.

Children's privacy
This site is a general-audience reference tool and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13. Since the tools do not ask for a name, email address, or any other identifying information, and note/chord selections never leave your browser, there is no personal information collected from any user, regardless of age, beyond the anonymous, non-identifying feedback signal described above.
Changes to this policy
If the way this site handles data changes, for example by adding a new feature that requires sending information to a server, this page will be updated to describe it accurately before that feature goes live. Checking back here periodically is the way to stay current, since no separate notification list exists.
